Raising Recyclers
How do we best
teach our children to be environmentally friendly? Parents don't
want to minimize the impact of pollution and global warming, yet
they don't want to scare their children with all of
the frightening statistics either. Sometimes the simple approach
is the best.
First of all, being a good "green" role model for your children
is essential. Let your children see you recycling, taking part
in activities to clean up your community or doing something as
simple as switching to a reusable water bottle instead of buying
single-use plastic water bottles. Explain to your children why
you're taking part in these activities.
Secondly, introducing children to the outdoors is key. Taking
walks with your children and introducing them to the beauty of
nature. Encourage your children to step away from the
television, computer and video games long enough to
enjoy hiking, gardening or just taking in the wildlife
surrounding them. Making the time to play in the park or just
enjoying time in your own backyard with your children can make
all the difference in the appreciation they develop for the
world around them!
